*Disclaimer: This is not an endorsement of the law of attraction or encouragement to practice manifestation. It is simply advice on how to use the principles behind these theories to cultivate healthy habits in your daily walk with God!* Happy Reading!

The Law of Attraction suggests that humans have the ability to obtain what we want in life by focusing on goals and aspirations until they materialize themselves; however, this can seem controversial to the Christian faith. Practicing “manifestation” directly conflicts with God’s desire for us to follow His plan over our own, and when we try to take advantage of the Law of Attraction to get what we want rather than what He wants for us, that is no bueno.
"Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s plan that prevails"
Proverbs 19:21
But with that being said, there are ways for us, as Christians, to utilize the three principles behind the Law of Attraction:
Positives Attract
Nature Abhors a Vacuum, and
The Present is What You Make it
...to help us grow in our faith!
Positives Attract
This principle states that we attract the people we are similar to. So naturally, if we want to be surrounded by strong Christians and joyful people, it is easier when we begin to display those characteristics ourselves. In other words, if we desire to be surrounded by Christ-like people, we are encouraged to imitate Christ as well! Plus, if you want to grow in your relationship with Jesus and share the Gospel through your conduct, lovingly imitating him is the way to go!
"Therefore be imitators of God as beloved Children"
Ephesians 5:1
Nature Abhors a Vacuum
Although "The Vacuum Law of Prosperity" is a daunting title, it just means that in order to attract whatever it is you want to be, do, or have in life, you have to make room for it! As Christians, we can apply this principle to prioritizing quiet times with the Lord . To develop a solid quiet time and prayer life, you have to be committed to making room for it in your day. If you try to squeeze a quiet time into your color-coordinated calendar without prioritizing it among other activities, it is a lot more likely that you will not reap its full benefits or be 100% focused on God.
"Seek first the kingdom of God”
Matthew 6:33
Matthew tells us to seek the kingdom of God first. Not second, third, or seventh, but first. And one great way to seek the kingdom first is by dedicating your mornings to the Lord. Praise him before you scroll through Instagram or catch up on emails. It'll change the entire vibe of your day for the better.
The Present is What You Make it
Our minds are constantly thinking about what the future may hold, but this principle tells us to embrace our present circumstances and make the most of what we have now. Make your current reality as “perfect” as possible, instead of waiting for a better future. For example, if you want a dream job that hasn't presented itself yet, perfect the job you currently have and use it as an opportunity to spread the gospel in your workplace. While waiting for a godly relationship, use your singleness to continue becoming a godly individual today. Don't wait for what is to come! Strive to make the most of today in light of the victory Jesus already has over tomorrow.
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself"
Matthew 6:34
What Now?
So, the Law of Attraction is a great reminder for us to...
(1) imitate Christ so that we can attract like-minded friends and inspire others to follow Him, (2) intentionally make room for quiet times and worship in our lives to grow our relationship with Him, and
(3) live everyday to its full potential and as an opportunity to glorify God.
With that being said, here are a few tangible ways that you can track your progress in these principles:
1. Visualize and write down your goals.
According to a Harvard Business Study, respondents who wrote down their goals were three times more likely to succeed than those who had goals but didn’t write them down.
e.g. "God-willing, I want to share the Gospel with at least one person this week!"
2. Make a vision board.
Vision boards help to take the thoughts and dreams in your head and turn them into something tangible. They are super fun to create (and can make a great phone background as well)! For example, if you want to read your Bible everyday, put a picture of a Bible in your collage. Seeing it will help you remember to read it!
3. Share your hopes with others to create accountability.
A study by the Dominican University of California found that after dividing participants into 5 groups, the group that wrote their goals down and updated friends about them had a 76% success rate. Christian communities are a great place to find these friends to update. Getting involved in a local church, Bible study, and/or small group helps to foster godly friendships and provide accountability from those who care about your aspirations.
4. Stay positive and keep pursuing your goals.
Adapting a positive inner dialogue and believing in yourself is crucial to success. Everybody makes mistakes; you'll get distracted during a quiet time or miss a day entirely, but keep going and don’t let feelings of defeat get you down! Remember, Jesus still loves you even when you mess up and aren't loving yourself.
"But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us"
Romans 5:8
5. Keep track of God’s presence and progress in your life.
In the old testament, the Israelites built stone pillars to remember God's acts of faithfulness. Personally, I prefer to journal. Gratitude and prayer journals are an especially great way to see how God moves overtime (and they don't require large rocks).
Ultimately, while these tips and tricks are helpful ways to guide us in our Christian walk,
the most important tips and tricks we can find are in the Word that God has given us.
I encourage you to keep pressing into the Truth and encourage others to do the same!
Love,
Erica
